Whispering Hills is a small private subdivision on Moss Lake, 10 miles northwest of Gainesville, Texas. Located on the southwest shores of the lake, the area began it's development in 1969. There are about 102 property owners, with about 80 residences.

Lake Fills with Spring Rains
On March 31, the area received 4 inches of rain which filled the lake past full to 717 ft above sea level. On May 3, the area received another 2 inches of rain and the lake came up again to 716.4, approximately 10 inches of rise in the water. There was also everything from marbel to baseball size hail reported. if you would like to monitor the lake level, see the link on our information page.

Work Day Scheduled
Meet at the bridge at 9 a.m., May 5th and help with the spring clean up in Whispering Hills. Bring your gloves, loppers, weed eaters, and ambition. The focus of the clean up will be to clear any blind spots along the roads created by new spring growth

About the Lake

Moss Lake is a great lake for fishing and skiing. The water is some of the cleanest water in Texas. Known as quiet family lake, it's the perfect escape from hectic city life.

Moss Lake was completed in 1966 and is approximately 1,380 acre lake. Normal surface area of the lake is 23, 210 acre-feet. Maximum depth is 50 feet near the dam. It is about 2 miles in length and the perimeter can be skied in about 30 minutes.

Named in memory of Hubert H. Moss, a local school superintendent and avid outdoorsman.
